Applying for a Deed Poll
Change your name online now
(using our secure server)

There are just 3 easy steps to changing your name:

Step 1 Complete the secure online application form for the type of Deed Poll you require i.e. child, adult or family. See below for information and fees for each Deed Poll type.
[
If you are changing a child's name, you need to send us a letter of consent after you have submitted your application form - see Can I change my children's names for help]
Step 2 Within four working days*, we will post you your Deed Poll document, which you sign, date and have witnessed (the witness can be anyone who is over 18 years of age and independent to you). Your new name is now effective.
*
Quicker and guaranteed delivery services are also available.
Step 3 You then write to any government department, company and organisation that has your records, enclosing your Deed Poll document, instructing them to change your name. You can also apply for documents such as your UK passport, driving licence, cheque book, credit cards etc. to be reissued in your new name.

That's all there is to it - and no visit to a solicitor is required.

To guide you through steps 2 and 3, you will receive our helpful Deed Poll Pack, supplied in a personalised storage folder containing the following documents:

Deed Poll Pack contents:
Your personalised Deed Poll, ready for you to sign.
Instruction sheet explaining how to correctly execute your Deed Poll (i.e. how to correctly date, sign and have witnessed).
Suggested list of government departments, companies and organisation who you will need to notify of your change of name, with tips as to what you need to do for each.
Example letter to send to companies and organisations instructing them to change their records to show your new name.
Your original letter of consent (if a letter was sent to us to change a child's name).

Family verses Child and Adult Deed Polls
If you are undecided as to whether to apply for a Family Deed Poll or apply for individual Adult and Child Deed Polls for yourself and other family members, you should consider the cost aspect (a Family Deed Poll is the least expensive) and whether you want your children to have their own Deed Poll document. The disadvantage of a Family Deed Poll is that when your children grow up and leave home, they will not have their own Deed Poll to take with them, which they will need (along with their birth certificate) when they are required to prove their identity (for employment purposes or if applying for a passport etc). If the cost is not too important to you, we suggest you apply for separate Deed Polls for each family member. Remember, additional Adult and Child Deed Polls are discounted by £10 each.
